About Osteopathy
Osteopathy is centered on the core principal that the many components of the human body all work together to function as a unit. As a highly experienced Osteopath, I deliver quality hands on treatment which aims to restore the whole system to a state of balance. Then, it can function at its best.
Osteopaths are trained to look beyond symptoms and see how lifestyle and environmental factors impact your wellbeing. So, rather than treating your specific symptoms in isolation, I look at these together with the rest of your body and in the context of how you live your life.

- Use detailed clinical assessments to develop a working diagnosis of your condition.
- Establish a treatment plan that’s specifically tailored to you.

FAQs
“We look at the body in health as meaning perfection and harmony, not in one part, but in the whole.”
– A. T. Still MD, DO (Founder of Osteopathy)
Osteopathy is a clinical health science and regulated form of primary health care.
Centred on a whole of body approach, Osteopathy stresses the importance of the neuro-musculoskeletal system in a person’s health and wellbeing. Osteopaths recognise that there is an important relationship between the structure of the body and how it functions as a cohesive unit.
Rather than treating your symptoms in isolation, osteopaths look at the bigger picture and aim to understand your condition in the context of your whole body and the way you live your life. Why are you in pain or suffering discomfort? What is causing your pain or discomfort to present in this way? How can you prevent it from reoccurring?
Ultimately osteopathic treatment aims to help restore balance to the various components of your body, supporting its self healing capacity, so that it can function at its best.
Osteopathic treatment focuses on the whole body, including the soft tissues (such as muscles, ligaments and tendons), your spine and joints and the nervous system, and may use a variety of different hands-on methods, including:
- Soft tissue massage techniques
- Stretching muscles and joint capsules
- Articulation – gentle rhythmic joint movements
- Joint manipulation
- Muscle energy techniques – encouraging muscles to work against resistance
- Active Release Techniques (ART)
- Ultrasound
“When every part of the machine is correctly adjusted and in perfect harmony, health will hold dominion over the human organism by laws as natural and immutable as the laws of gravity.”
– A. T. Still MD, DO
Preventative medicine, including good nutrition and regular exercise, is vital in sustaining healthy body systems. To compliment the above treatment methods, the following support and ongoing management options may also be offered:-
- Rehabilitation programs
- Exercises for stretching and strengthening
- Ergonomic advice
- Education
- Postural retraining
At Osteopath to Health your treatment will be completely tailored to you, with your needs informing every part of the treatment process. I am committed to working collaboratively with you on your path to health. I’ll also work with your GP and other health care providers to help get you back to your normal healthy self as quickly as possible.
Osteopaths are university trained, government registered, allied health professionals.
In Australia, all practicing osteopaths must be registered with the Osteopathy Board of Australia.
Osteopaths complete a mandatory five year university program to obtain a Bachelor Degree in Applied Science and a Masters Degree of Osteopathy. Studies include extensive clinical experience and practical training. Our education and expertise is based on medical and health sciences such as anatomy, physiology, neuroscience, pathology, general healthcare diagnosis and osteopathic techniques.
Osteopaths are trained to recognise conditions that require referral to other medical professionals for further investigation and treatment. We are also trained to perform standard examinations of the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory and nervous systems.
This intensive training allows us to develop the skills and attitudes necessary to:-
- Develop a working diagnosis for particular health conditions,
- Provide treatment and rehabilitation to patients with physical disorders and disabilities,
- Identify irregularities of potential concern and refer on to appropriate specialist practitioners where required,
- Provide appropriate advice and support to aid in injury prevention and pain management, and
- Know how and when to refer you for x-rays and neurological testing to help with diagnosis.
Most people, regardless of age, will suffer from some form of pain throughout their life. Osteopaths may be able to help identify the cause of the pain and develop a course of action to manage pain, allowing you to make the most of your life.
Clients commonly seek osteopathic treatment for:-
- Back or neck pain
- Headaches
- Rehabilitation following an accident or injury
- Sciatica
- Sports injuries
- Posture and ergonomic issues
- Arthritic pain
- Foot, knee and hip problems
- Muscle Spasms
- Shoulder pain
- General aches and stiffness
Practicing osteopaths are required to be registered with the Osteopathic Board of Australia (OBA), the national board responsible for regulating the osteopathic professional throughout the country. The role of the OBA is to protect the public and set standards and policies that all registered osteopaths must meet. The OBA is supported by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency in implementing the National Registration and Accreditation Scheme.
In addition to this professional registration, I am also a member of Osteopathy Australia, the peak body representing the interests of osteopaths, osteopathy as a profession and consumer rights to access osteopathic services within Australia.
When you invest your time and trust with me, you can be assured that you’re being treated by a government registered practitioner with extensive training and the passion and commitment to provide you with appropriate and quality health care.
Each year the Osteopathic Board of Australia (OBA) requires all registered Osteopaths to complete a number of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) course and seminars. This ongoing education facilitates the continual improvement of the professional aptitude of Osteopaths and helps to improve and standardise the Osteopathic profession as a whole. The foremost objective being the continued excellence in the delivery of Osteopathic healthcare services to the public.

Osteopaths, physiotherapists and chiropractors all utilise hands on treatment methods with the aim of reducing pain and helping your body work well. The fundamental difference between them comes down to the underlining principles which guide how a working diagnosis is formed and treatment is delivered.
Osteopaths work from the perspective that all of the body’s systems are interconnected and that restoring balance to the neuro-musculoskeletal system helps reduce pain, aid the body’s ability to heal, and allow your body to function at its best.
It’s important to remember that no two practitioners will provide exactly the same treatment. Fundamentally it’s about finding a practitioner who best suits you and your needs, as this is a highly personal preference.
